기술진보와 해외매출비중이 기업가치에 미치는 영향
본 연구는 개별기업의 기술진보(Technical progress)가 해외매출비중에 미치는 영향을 분석 하고, 기술진보 및 해외매출비중이 기업가치와 양(+)의 관련성이 있는지를 실증분석하는데 목적이 있다. 나아가 기술진보와 해외매출비중의 상호작용이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 탐색하 고자 한다. 2003년부터 2019년까지 국내 유가증권시장 상장기업 중 제조업을 영위하는 12월말 결산 기업 6,111개(기업-년)를 대상으로 실증분석 한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 표본기업의 기술진보를 측정한 결과, 표본 중 약 50% 이상의 기업은 기술후퇴가 아닌 진보를 경험하였음을 보였다. 또한, 표본기업의 총매출 중 27.6%가 해외매출로 구성됨을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 기술진 보가 해외매출비중에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, 기술진보는 해외매출비중에 유의한 양(+)의 영향을 미친다는 결과를 보였다. 셋째, 기술진보와 해외매출비중은 각각 기업가치에 양(+)의 영향을 미치고, 기술진보와 해외매출비중의 상호작용은 기업가치를 강화시킨다는 증거를 찾을 수 있었다. 본 연구는 기술이 진보화된 기업일수록 국내시장보다는 해외시장 집중도를 높임으 로써 기업가치를 더욱 강화시킬 수 있다는 실증적 증거를 제시한다. 이러한 증거는 기술집약적 기업의 경영자로 하여금 전략적 의사결정을 수립하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다.
The Impact of Technical Progress and Foreign Sales on Firm Value
The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of firms' technical progress on foreign sales and to empirically analyze whether technical progress and foreign sales are positively related to firm value. Furthermore, we explore the effect of the interaction between technical progress and foreign sales on firm value. The results of an empirical analysis of 6,111 (firm-year) manufacturing firms listed on the Korea Exchange from 2003 to 2019 are as follows. First, as a result of measuring the technical progress of the sample firms, we found that more than 50% of the samples experienced progress, not technical retreat. In addition, we found that 27.6% of the sample firms' total sales consisted of foreign sales. Second, we confirmed that technical progress had a significant positive effect on foreign sales. Third, our results show that technical progress and foreign sales each have a positive effect on firm value, and the interaction between technical progress and foreign sales strengthens firm value. This study presents empirical evidence that advanced technology firms can further strengthen firm value by increasing their concentration in overseas markets rather than in the domestic market. This evidence can help managers of technology-intensive firms make strategic decisions.
